The Blog of St. Mark

St. Mark Lutheran Church is a group of Christians gathered around Word and Sacraments in Duncanville, Texas (on the south side of Dallas), proclaiming Christ crucified and risen to the world!

We hold the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the sole rule, judge, and norm of our faith and doctrine because they are the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God.

We hold to the three solas of the Reformation as our guiding principles:

• Sola Gratia — We believe that sinners are saved by grace alone through the work of Jesus Christ on our behalf.  “For it is by grace you have been saved…” (Eph. 2:8ff).
• Sola Fide — We believe that it is only by faith in the work of Jesus Christ — true God, begotton from all eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary — that sinners are saved from eternal death in hell.
• Sola Scriptura — We believe that the Holy Scriptures, the Bible, are the inspired Word of God and the only source of wisdom, strength, comfort, teaching, and instruction for life — not human reason, not experience, not Tradition, or manmade laws.

We also subscribe to the The Book of Concord , the Lutheran Confessions, not as a rule, judge, and norm for our life on a par with the Scriptures, but because they are correct expositions of what the Old and New Testaments teach.

We believe that confessions like those found in the The Book of Concord are necessary because there are so many different interpretations of the Bible we hold in common, and so we must confess what we believe.

We are a congregation in confessional fellowship with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.

We’re located at 610 N. Cedar Ridge Road, Duncanville, TX, about a mile south of Interstate 20 and kitty-corner from Duncanville High School.
